The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. Learn About Our State Supported Living Centers

Responsibilities and Duties
  • The Behavior Analyst provides senior level behavior analysis services in the form of consultation and technical assistance to individuals with cognitive, developmental, physical and health related needs, working under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Provides supervision to behavioral health staff in the area of applied behavior analysis.
  • Performs observations and functional assessments necessary for behavior analysis and service delivery, including restraint reduction, skill acquisition plans, and data analysis of the effects of psychotropic medication.
  • Provides training to staff concerning positive and effective approaches to preventing/addressing challenging behaviors.
  • Assists in evaluating the consistent implementation of behavior support plans through observation, staff interviews, and review of documentation.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and departmental and agency policy; develops systems to meet standards and requirements.
  • Serves on work groups and committees and may chair the Behavior Support Plan Peer Review Committee.
  • Work schedule varies upon request or as needed.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attends work regularly and may work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime per agency policy.
  • May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet facility needs.
  • Assess behavior needs, determine function of challenging behavior, and develop behavior plans.
  • Participate in mandatory training per HHS policies, HIPAA, state/federal rules, and ICF-IID regulations to provide quality psychiatric services and care.
  • Provide behavior analysis services as consultation and technical assistance; conduct comprehensive functional behavior assessments and develop behavior support plans.
  • Provide training and clinical consultation to behavioral health staff and interdisciplinary teams to facilitate effective behavior analysis interventions and supports for program implementation.
  • Evaluate behavior support plan development and implementation through observation, interviews, and documentation review; analyze trends and outcomes.
  • Support services related to skill acquisition development and reduction of peer-to-peer aggression, restraints, and traumatic stress in the SSLC environment.
  • Other duties include participating in disaster response, Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, and may require alternate shift patterns or Ubicación.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive functional behavior assessments and functional (analogue) behavior analysis; develop behavior support plans.
  • Knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis and behavior support plan development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge regarding medications used to assist with behavior management and systems to track treatment effectiveness.
  • Ability to evaluate behavioral and program data and make clinical recommendations based on data.
  • Ability to train staff in programming and related behavioral areas.
  • Ability to supervise behavioral and programming staff.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with substantial initiative and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering behavioral services to persons with intellectual disabilities, including skill acquisition training, peer-to-peer aggression, restraint reduction, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Knowledge of etiology and characteristics of developmental disabilities; applicable laws and policies.
  • Advanced writing skills for technical reports, grants, proposals, and related documents.
  • Leadership skills to motivate staff and implement changes.
  • Knowledge and skills in using personal computers and relevant software.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications

Must be a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board) or a certified Qualified Behavior Analyst (QBA); and eligible to be licensed as a Behavior Analyst in Texas. Licensure as a Behavior Analyst through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is preferred.

Initial Screening Criteria

A minimum of a master's degree from an accredited university that was conferred in behavior analysis, education, psychology, or related discipline is required. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred.

Additional Information
  • Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and LEIE.
  • Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to random drug testing.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime/extended hours; weekends/holidays may be required.
